The princess is leading the elephant a pretty dance while the snooty camel awaits his turn at having Holi paint thrown over him. The painting was sold to a couple who wanted to be reminded of India… and this painting summed it all up for them.
There is a great deal going on in this painting…. Strings of peerless pearls, blazing sunshine, a white palace in the background. There is no wonder that the birds have much to discuss.
My garden... and other's. These paintings were initiated by visits to the Bernese Oberland where I was overwhelmed... bedazzled... by the wild flowers. Returning home, I began a series of very small paintings from these visits.
Here, also, are images from other visits both abroad and in England... Norfolk and London, wild flowers in Switzerland, dreams of Italian gardens, India, .. all providing me with a feeling of joy.
Last year, we were visited by waxwings. Little more exciting than seeing THEM in your garden!

I was exited about this painting as it began my journey along the abstraction of imagery. It was a memory of an Angela Brazil book (1908!) where the school girls lit paper lanterns and floated them down a stream.

'Tales of the Greek Heroes' by Roger Lancelyn Green was a very first, most beloved book in my (very small) childhood library. I must have been eight years old. The book told enthrallingly vivid stories .
Stories are therefore key to these paintings. Iphitus, Icarus..... these names conjure up imagery in my imagination. This group of paintings include Greek myths, but also the feelings that are evoked by words.... aspects of existence.... hence 'Broken Horizon', 'Creation' 'Into the Light' etc.
